As some of you will be aware, I've always been a bit vocal on the cliched
theory (indeed, who can forget the arguments Brett,Tamlyn and I used to
have whilst driving down to Nequay back in the day - what fun we
had!) that we will be made redundant by the evolution of a
far superior animal (ironically a monster we've created) - here is
an interesting article about the shifting attitude of society towards
automation...
Ironically, man has only been at the top of a food chain for a few
hundred thousands years... compare that to the reign of other animals
in the past (dinosaurs - millions of years; where are they now?) and
consider the fragility of life and the abundance of war, natural
diasters and viral agents, not even taking into account our own
mechanical creations, and it's amazing we even still are here reading
this!
We seem to think that intelligence is a prime component in the
evolutionary chain - it's not so clever killing yourself? Personally
I'd put the money on a cockroach in the event of a nuke... Oh oh - I'm
getting started... I'll leave you with a thought - did you
know that the USA want to have 1/3 of their land army to be robots by
2015... scary
stuff...
