It's official - I have resigned from my job (albeit a long way off) and will be working part-time from the 18th of September to either November or December (depending on how it goes). After this I am UNEMPLOYED. Actually, I am self-employed. My new title is Entrepreneur, and I will be working full-time on my business; Smart-Thinker.
Luckily, I have a back-up plan. I will be working on PokerDIY to ensure it becomes the NUMBER ONE Poker League and Event management in the world. This should happen in the next 3 to 12 months, after which it will become my main focus (providing online premium services to poker players). But small steps first!
Some inbred once wrote "The man who is tired of life should live in London" or "The man who is tired of London is tired of life" or something to that degree. Well - I must be tired of life, cos I am tired of London. I don't think I will always be, but I need a break from the big smoke...
When I was a kid in the the Joyce family, we used to move every 1-2 years (my dad said it was his job, but I think it was the POleece chasing us!). Anyway - it's just not normal to stay in one city/country for longer than 2 years and I I'm going on 8 years...I've done Africa, Europe and now for somewhere completely different... I'm talking about Aus, mate! Where the sheilas are friendly and the sheep are friendlier (according to me mate Bruce). Throw another shrimp on the Barby and all that....
I made this news public yesterday with an email to my current employer, Biomni, who I have worked for as an Analyst Programmer for the last 6 years. That's a long time and I have made some fantastic friends (Simon, Tim, Jeff and loads others who's names I forget) and I love working here. We get 2 days working from home a week - which is so cool, and I can wear my normally scruffy clothes. Plus I program in .NET 2.0 and have quite bit of creative freedom. The pay is not too bad either (not quite what James earns, but then he has to where a suit and can't eat at Benjis and can't keep a blog etc.) So pros and cons really... but the time is right for me and being my own boss beckons. Smart-Thinker is doing really well and is a leading DNN Module Vendor. Sales are good and being the nerd that I am I WILL do what it takes to make it work full-time... but it's pokerDIY that you want to keep an eye on...
Being a realist (as opposed to an idealist) - there is a slight chance, 3%, that my ideas will fail. I highly doubt this, as I am not really a gambling man, but should you pass me in the street please pause to greet me like an old friend and buy the Big Issue.
OOI - Here is my resignation notice;

Hello
All,
I thought I would just drop you an
email so that you hear it from me first (“kick the cat out the bag” so to speak)
regarding my plans as they are official now.
I have given very early notice to resign from Biomni.
Due to the nature of my plans and the urgency of Directa 5, we have come to an
amicable agreement where I will be working part-time from September the
18th (3 days a week – Mon –> Wed)) – for 2-3 months (depending on
how things go). I will be working as normal until Sept
18th.
My last day at Biomni will be
December the 15th if I stay the full 3 months. Out of interest I am
also emigrating to Australia sometime between Feb and
August next year, depending on when Jeff and Judi get married… (don’t
ask).
It’s been really great working at
Biomni for the last 6 years - I have enjoyed working with you all and love the
friendly, working environment that we have here. It is now time for me to make
my pastures even greener than they are now.
Please don’t send me “3 days a week?
A bit like normal then” jokes – I wrote most of them ;)
